The position that this posting is focused on is with our IT Operations and CyberSecurity team. We have transitioned a great deal of our systems out to the cloud in several different ways, but we still have to manage all of those relationships, technologies, the solutions that tie the technologies together, and we still maintain a very active on-site environment of systems and users.

 

We traditionally like to task interns with at least one or two meaningful projects in addition to some cross training on standard technology administration functions. We maintain a long list of pending projects that our team and interns can work on. Some examples include security related projects like setting up an internal event logging server and capturing/normalizing event traffic from firewalls, switches, servers, and other key systems. Also, operational projects like helping us replace all of our infrastructure switches (including fundamental VLAN and IP configuration changes – simplify the network and establish internal ACLs).

 

The general administrative functions will cover everything from standard Helpdesk support for our users to server patching and vulnerability mitigation. The actual workload will depend on a combination of corporate priorities, your interests, and our shared comfort with the level of technical challenge you are ready for.

 

In order to assist you with achieving our shared goals, you will work directly with the entire IT Operations team and get as much mentoring as needed from our CISO/Director of IT Ops.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have taken technical computer courses or have direct technical experience with at least some of the following focus areas:

 

Computer networking - some level of hand-on understanding of the OSI model, VLANs, routing, and Access Control Lists [ACLs]

 

Desktop and Server management – some exposure to setting up Windows servers and desktops on a corporate domain and some of the standard services running on servers (IIS, SQL Server, File/Print services, etc.)

 

Virtualization – understanding what a virtual environment is and what that means to general administrative functions

 

Ethical Hacking or threat detection or … really any technical cyber security training or work that required hands-on use of different tools and a demonstrated understanding of which tool to use in a given scenario and why.
